IPL Photofacial in Chicago

IPL photofacial targets pigmentation and vascular concerns: sun spots, age spots, freckles, rosacea, diffuse redness, broken capillaries, and uneven skin tone. It works best on fair to medium skin tones where there is clear contrast between the pigment being targeted and the surrounding skin. It is not suitable for very dark skin tones.

Most clients see meaningful improvement after 3–5 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart. Sun damage and age spots typically clear significantly after 3 sessions. Rosacea often requires 4–5 sessions for lasting reduction in redness. Each session treats a fresh round of pigment that has migrated to the surface — spacing sessions 4 weeks apart allows the skin to fully respond to each treatment.

Redness and mild warmth for a few hours after treatment are normal — similar to a light sunburn. Pigmented spots will temporarily darken (turn coffee-brown) over the next 3–7 days before flaking off or fading. This is the skin clearing the treated pigment and is a sign the treatment worked. Most clients can return to normal activity immediately — with SPF and without active skincare ingredients for 3–5 days.

Most clients describe each pulse as a rubber band snap — brief, sharp, and manageable. Some areas (around the nose, hairline) are more sensitive. The session moves quickly — a full face takes about 20 minutes of active treatment. Cooling gel is applied before and during treatment to reduce discomfort.

Yes — IPL is one of the most effective treatments for rosacea-related redness and broken capillaries. The light targets hemoglobin in blood vessels, causing them to collapse and be reabsorbed by the body. Diffuse redness, visible capillaries on the nose and cheeks, and background facial flushing all respond well to IPL. Results are not permanent — rosacea is a chronic condition — but regular IPL sessions keep redness well-controlled.
